Corrie star Mikey North says Gary Windass is devastated when Izzy miscarries their baby

There’s tragedy in store for Coronation Street residents Gary Windass and his girlfriend Izzy Armstrong next week when poor Izzy suffers a miscarriage.

As fans of the show will know, despite Izzy’s fears that Gary would be upset that she was pregnant, he was delighted at the news, and ever since, the couple have been happily planning their future together.

However, as mentioned, when Izzy (Cherylee Houston) collapses at work next week and is rushed to hospital, she and Gary will be devastated when doctors tell them that they’ve lost the baby.

Today, Mikey North, who of course plays former soldier Gary, has told TV Biz that the sad event will have a dreadful effect on his character…

However, he began by explaining that in the lead up to the miscarriage, Gary complains to new Underworld boss Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) that he’s working Izzy too hard by insisting she does overtime…

It’s an accusation Rob doesn’t take kindly to, and he and Gary nearly come to blows over it.

Mikey said, “Rob has taken charge of Underworld and he’s overworking Izzy. Gary takes offence to that, and has a quiet word in Rob’s ear about it.

“But Rob doesn’t listen and carries on working her too hard, so Gary goes in to see him about it.

“Gary confronts Rob in a more aggressive way the second time round. Izzy is there at the time, and when she tries to intervene, she starts experiencing pains and is rushed to hospital.

“At first, Gary is scared that he’s to blame for the miscarriage, as him going in and kicking off at Underworld caused Izzy unnecessary stress…

“But actually, it turns out that she hadn’t felt right for a while…

“Gary tries to put on a brave face for Izzy, so that she doesn’t feel worse than she already does.

“He’s very upset himself, but he does try to look after Izzy and convince her that everything is going to be fine.”

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Mikey explained that Gary will reassure Izzy that they can try for another baby, however, unwilling to face a similar trauma in the future, Izzy tells him there’s no way she’s going to become pregnant again.

Of that, Mikey said, “Gary is overeager to try again for another baby as soon as possible.

“People with Izzy’s condition can carry babies to full-term, but it just so happens that she miscarried on this occasion.

“But Izzy is not so keen on the idea. She eventually decides that she can’t face going through it again, as she doesn’t want the pain of carrying a baby full-term with her condition.

“Izzy tells Gary that she’s not going to try for another baby and that’s the most upsetting thing for Gary – that he’s never going to be a dad.

“He tries desperately to persuade Izzy otherwise.”

Well, if rumour is to be believed, in forthcoming episodes, Izzy’s sister Katie (Georgia May Foote) is going to volunteer to be a surrogate mother and have a baby for Izzy and Gary, but it’s understood that Izzy and Katie’s hot tempered dad Owen (Ian Puleston Davies) is going to be so dead set against the plan, he ends up in a brawl with Gary over it.

We’ll keep you posted on that of course!
