Corrie star Natalie Gumede on uncomfortable baby bump and dislikable Kirsty
As fans of Corrie will know, pregnant Kirsty Soames gets nastier and more unpleasant by the minute, and Natalie Gumede, who of course plays her, has told Inside Soap magazine that were her character a real person, she definitely wouldn’t be friends with her.
And she also revealed that she’s not enjoying having to wear a baby bump either, given that it gets pretty warm in Corrie’s studios.
But first, of Kirsty – who is about to begin abusing fiancé Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) in a controversial domestic violence storyline – Natalie said, “I think it’s important to bring warmth to Kirsty because people have to understand why Tyrone’s in love with her.
“But if Kirsty were real, I wouldn’t want to be friends with her!”
Then, of portraying Kirsty’s pregnancy, Natalie – who’s also starred in BBC3 sitcom Ideal, Emmerdale, Doctors and The Persuasionists – remarked, “To be honest, the baby bump isn’t my favourite thing…
“I’s like an all-in-one bodysuit with a cushion sewn in. And now that the studios are getting warmer, it’s not the most comfortable thing to wear.”
But of course, Natalie’s challenges become a whole new ball game when baby Dobbs arrives!
Of that she said, “Working with a baby will be another new challenge for me!”
We’ll see Kirsty beating Tyrone in a storyline that’s set to run through the next few months, and we’ll also be meeting her parents very soon.
