As fans of Corrie will most likely know, Ryan Connor is heading back to Weatherfield having been kicked out of university – he is of course Michelle Connor’s son – and he’s set to create havoc on the Street according to Sol Heras who plays Ryan.
The role of Ryan was of course originally played by Ben Thompson, however, he left the show in 2010, and apparently declined the offer to reprise the role.
In the People on Sunday, Sol talked about his character’s impact on the Street, and about the fact that he’s set to be a “nightmare” for his mum Michelle (Kym Marsh) when she learns he’s involved in drugs.
Sol said, “Ryan comes back to Weatherfield and makes out his university course wasn’t right for him, but the truth is he has been kicked out…
“Before Ryan went to uni you could see he was a little bit mischievous and had the potential to cause trouble, but now the floodgates have opened.
“He’s got in with the wrong people and is involved in drugs.
“Ryan’s not himself and his mum can see that but she loves him and doesn’t want to accept the underlying issue, which is drugs.
“He starts causing trouble with other people on the street and it becomes a total nightmare for her.”
Sol, who’s previously starred in Rock Rivals and Hollyoaks, went on to reveal that he was working as a gardener when he tried out for the part of Ryan, however, it seems he nearly blew his chances at the audition by dyeing his hair!
He said, “The old Ryan had jet black hair and I thought I would change my hair colour to make it match.
“I found a wash-in dye to make it as black as possible but soon realised I didn’t have a clue what I was doing.
“As I put it on I read the packet which said I should have done a skin test first and began to panic.
“Thankfully it was OK – but I’ll definitely read the instructions next time.”
One of Sol’s first storylines on the Street will be Ryan’s attempt to kiss Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) who he’s always had a bit of a thing for…
Fans of the show will recall, before Ryan left for university, he had been dating Sian Powers (Sacha Parkinson) but she dumped him in order to have a relationship with Sophie, but at the time, there were no hard feelings and the trio remained friends.
But as mentioned, when he comes home, he’s keen to let Sophie know that he’s attracted to her, so when the pair share a laugh and a joke as Sophie cleans No13 for her dad Kevin (Michael Le Vell), their catch up ends in a kiss. But will Sophie fall for Ryan’s charms?
Well, that remains to be seen, but what we do know is that Ryan is set to get off on the wrong foot with new Underworld manager Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) after he fails to turn up for work at the factory on his first day.
He chooses instead to spend the day drinking in the Rovers, and there’s set to be a heated showdown between the two newcomers that sees Rob trying to punch Ryan!
A Corrie insider told the Daily Star, “It’s a very different Ryan who returns to the cobbles following his stint at university.
“All he wants is to live it up and enjoy the summer and he doesn’t take too kindly to anyone messing up his plans.
“He’s always liked Sophie and wants to have some fun with her.
“Whether or not she’s up for it remains to be seen. He is going to be trouble with a capital T.”
We’ll see Ryan’s return on July 16th.
