As fans of Corrie will know, Sunita Alahan and Karl Munro are getting ever closer as they not only clash with their respective partners, Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) and Stella (Michelle Collins), but their attraction to each other grows…

And today, Shobna Gulati and John Mitchie, who play the soon-to-be lovers, have been talking about the affair, and the ramifications for their characters.

Beginning with John, during an interview for the show’s official website, he revealed that he thinks no matter what happens, Karl – who’s about to fake a break in at the Rovers to cover the fact he’s stolen money from the safe – will always manage to charm his way back into Stella’s good books.

He said, “I don’t think this is the end of Karl and Stella just yet. Karl might seem stupid, but he’s not – he’s a real operator. So he’s not going to let Stella out of his life that easily…

“He’ll find a way to get back, and he’ll find a way to keep Sunita dangling on a string. He has taken a shine to Sunita – mainly because he reckons she listens to him and Stella doesn’t.

“And Karl is a bit of a user, so if there’s someone around that he can use, for whatever purposes, he’s inclined to go down that road.”

Meanwhile, Shobna told Soaplife that for Sunita, the attraction to Karl is an “animal” one!

She said, “There’s a real animal attraction between them” which Sunita doesn’t have with Dev.

And of Dev, Shobna said, “No matter how much Dev promises not to take Sunita for granted he still very much does.

“Dev doesn’t see her as a woman in her own right, but just as the mother of his children. To Dev she’s just invisible.”

So when the hoohar kicks off at the Rovers over Karl’s stealing and gambling debts, he comes running to Sunita…

Of that, Shobna explained, “She is upset that Karl has lied and let the pub staff be put on the suspects list.

“She is also shocked at just how easily Karl can lie to Stella. She keeps telling him to come clean to Stella [but] she is not completely aware just how big Karl’s gambling problem is at this point.

“Even when he admits how big his issue is she still wants to be able to help him and try and fix his addiction.

“She probably has not got it in her mind at this stage that she wants to sleep with him, but she is pleased that he has turned to her.

“Karl has added a level of excitement to her life. He makes her feel special – and that’s what has been missing with Dev.”
