Corrie: Wedding bells to ring out at Christmas as Tyrone & Kirsty tie the knot, as do Nick & Leanne!

by Lynn Connolly

Christmas on our soaps is usually a time of abject misery and quite often, death and destruction, which is of course why we love them…

However this Christmas, there should be a little joy on the yuletide horizon as wedding bells are set to ring across the Corrie cobbles for couples Tyrone Dobbs and Kirsty Soames, as well as Nick Tilsley and Leanne Barlow.

But of course, there are ulterior motives and obstacles to face for both couples, and beginning with Tyrone, his proposal to psycho Kirsty (Natalie Gumede) is with the sole intention of becoming the legal guardian of his baby daughter Ruby.

Fans will no doubt recall that scheming Kirsty registered baby Ruby’s birth behind Tyrone’s back, stating father unknown on the birth certificate. She did so in order that if Ty (Alan Halsall) tried to get custody of the baby, she could say that Tyrone isn’t her dad…

The Daily Star reports, “So Tyrone decides that if he becomes Kirsty’s husband he’ll have more say over the tot and be able to escape with her as soon as he can.”

In scenes that will be screened next month, the couple are seen drinking champagne while planning their wedding in the Rovers Return.

Kirsty tells barman Sean Tully, “We’re setting a date for our wedding,” while Tyrone chips in with, “Tomorrow if it’s possible.”

And while Nick (Ben Price) and Leanne (Jane Danson) appear equally as keen to tie the knot, when Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) returns to the Street with his lover Carla Connor (Alison King) we’re to be left wondering if Leanne can go through with her wedding to Nick, given that she’s still in love with Peter.

Of the Christmas weddings, a show insider said, “We’ve got two weddings but will there be a funeral?

“Maybe it’s just Tyrone and Kirsty’s relationship that’s dead.”

We will of course keep you posted on all the spoilers!
