Corrie: When conman Lewis Archer moves in to kiss Gail McIntyre, she rejects him, but for how long?!

by Lynn Connolly

As in real life, there are some things that are a taboo in soap land, and falling for your mother’s ex-boyfriend is one of them…

But that’s exactly what Gail McIntyre is going to do after cunning conman Lewis Archer has laid on the charm so thick, you could scrape it off with a trowel.

Lewis (Nigel Havers) has of course launched his charm offensive on Gail by way of revenge – and probably hoping to make a few quid while he’s at it – after Gail plotted with Gloria Price (Sue Johnston) to end Lewis’s relationship with Gail’s mum Audrey (Sue Nicholls).

And it’s all been working very well, he may even be perfecting his plan laugh, while all the while, Gail has been lavishing smooth as a cashmere codpiece Lewis with attention after he feigned a bad back in order to get his feet well and truly under Gail’s table…

So it’s no surprise then that in the New Year, Lewis steps things up a gear by moving in to kiss Gail, but how will she react?

Well, Helen Worth, who plays recidivist bride Gail has been talking about the plotline to Inside Soap.

She said, “We know how easily Gail is influenced by a smooth-talking charmer!

“She’s always had such bad judgement when it comes to men – she’s so keen to be in a relationship that her heart forever rules her head.

“Gail would be horrified to think she was being duped. But she’s so caught up in all the flattery – and her own guilt at having falsely accused Lewis of having an affair with Gloria – that she will now believe anything he tells her.

“That’s how men like Lewis get away with conning woman after woman, even when they know what he’s like.”

And of the New Year kiss attempt, Helen said, “Gail’s really torn right now…

“She’s a bit foolish and easily led, but she didn’t wreck his relationship with Audrey for the wrong reasons.

“Gail thought Lewis was conning her mum. Sadly, she may ultimately be proved right – but at what expense?”

We’ll see this dramatic plot twist on Friday, January 4 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV1.

Do you think Gail will succumb to Lewis’ charms? For now, here’s a reminder of how her last romance ended…
