Could Katy Perry be set to knock Ellie Goulding off the top spot?

Katy Perry’s latest single ‘Roar’ was only released last Sunday (a week earlier than planned in the UK) but already it looks like the star could be about to score her fourth Number 1 single this weekend.

Ellie Goulding currently has the title of UK Number 1 in the singles chart with her single ‘Burn’ but it looks like Katy Perry could be about to take that prestigious title away from her.

According to information released by The Official Charts Company earlier today ‘Roar’ by Katy Perry had sold around 103,000 copies in the UK up until midnight last night.

If the track which is taken from her forthcoming album ‘Prism’ (due for release on the 21st of October) keeps up this momentum then not only will she top the Official Singles Chart but ‘Roar’ could also take the title of one of the fastest selling singles of the year so far.

The current title holder is with Avicii with his track ‘Wake Me Up’ which after it was released in July it sold 266,000 copies in its first week. ‘Blurred Lines’ by Robin Thicke sold almost 191,000 copies in its first week of release back in May.

Back to the Top 5 – Ellie Goulding moves into the Number (2) spot this week after three weeks at the top with ‘Burn’.

‘Wake Me Up’ by Avicii falls down a place into Number (3) this week while ‘Sonnentanz (Sun Don’t Shine)’ by Klangkarussell FT Will Heard is at Number (4).

Rounding off the Top 5 this week is the Cedric Gervais remix of Lana Del Rey’s ‘Summertime Sadness’.

Other than ‘Roar’ by Katy Perry there are three new entries this week in the Official Singles Chart.

Neon Jungle, the UK’s latest girl band are making their debut in the Top 10 this weekend with their debut single ‘Trouble’ which currently sits at Number (10).

You Me At Six are also a new entry this week with their new track ‘Lived A Lie’ which sits at Number (11) despite being released 24 hours after this weeks other new entries.

London Grammar and their new track ‘Strong’ look set to score their second Top 40 single this weekend which currently sits at Number (17) in the Official Singles Chart.

Katy Perry is also releasing the official video for ‘Roar’ tomorrow so be sure to keep an eye on Twitter for when that’s available but in the meantime watch the official lyric video below.
