@Cumberbitches & other fans… Benedict Cumberbatch is worried about you!

Sherlock and Parade’s End star Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed that he’s worried about some of his “obsessive fans” and in particular, his group of Twitter followers, @Cumberbitches!

Speaking to the PA, Benedict said of the group, “There is some obsessive behaviour, which is quite worrying.

“I worry for them, not for me.”

He added, “I’m still very sensitive and wary of people recognising me.

“The only thing that really annoys me is people trying to surreptitiously take a photo on their phone without asking.

“I feel it’s cowardly and a bit pathetic.

“Just ask me if you really want me to have a photograph with you…”

Well Benedict, let me just say that I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to a goodly few of the Cumberbitches, and you need not worry for them; they’re all perfectly sane! And I doubt that any of these redoubtable fans would have an issue with coming up to you and asking for a photo!

However, moving on, and also during the interview, Benedict revealed that he was quite surprised when he was chosen to play the role of “accidental hero” Christopher Tietjens in Parade’s End.

Benedict – who had to wear a ‘fat suit’ for the role – said, “I kept saying, ‘He’s a fat, blonde Yorkshireman. Why do you want me to play this part?’

“I insisted on the fat suit and plumpers, these things you put in your mouth, but I would have liked to have gone a lot further. I wasn’t fat enough!”

Parade’s End begins on BBC Two on Friday, August 24.

So Benedict fans – does he have any reason to “worry” about you? Are you super obsessed or just bog standard fans?
