Dallas: Writer cried while penning J.R. funeral episode
A Dallas scriptwriter broke down and cried while writing the funeral episode featuring oil tycoon J.R. Ewing.
News that Larry Hagman, who played the character, lost his battle with cancer was announced last year and show executive Cynthia Cidre struggled to write the sad event into the show. She told Entertainment Weekly: “I started to type, and I started crying so hard I couldn’t even see the computer screen.”
The late actor had filmed five new episodes of the America show before his death and an additional deleted scene will be included in an upcoming show while his absence is explained.
Claire added: “It will be funny and appropriate to JR. But it will also be sad because his family loved him, as do the fans.”
A number of former Dallas stars are said to be returning to the show for a special tribute episode including Victoria Principal, who played Pam Ewing between 1978 and 1987.
