Daybreak re-launch fails to impress some viewers – what do you think of it?

As we reported yesterday, Lorraine Kelly and Aled Jones became the new lead anchors for ITV’s breakfast show, Daybreak.

However, despite the show’s bosses hopes that viewers would flock back in their droves now that Lorraine and Aled are fronting the ailing programme, many viewers were left decidedly under-whelmed by the new studio and presenters.

Within minutes of the show airing, fans took to Twitter to criticise the new format, branding it a low budget imitation of BBC Breakfast.

One viewer tweeted, “Watched 20 mins of @daybreak. Have now turned over to BBC. Don’t like the new format.”

Another remarked, “Wtf have daybreak done to their layout, looks like something from 1950′s, yellow wallpaper and striples… Ew.”

And yet another said, “This new look Daybreak, then, will they be bringing back the old TV-am set like GMTV did when their ratings fell down the lav then??”

Other viewers called for the full time return of Kate Garraway – who will cover for Lorraine on Friday mornings – and Dan Lobb.

One said, “Not enjoying the new Daybreak line-up. Bring back @kategarroway and @danlobb!! The new set is making me feel nauseous.”

And another Twitter user wrote, “How budget does #daybreak look now!!! Plus Dan and Kate were miles better than this pair! #fail.”

However, a Daybreak spokeswoman said that the show’s bosses weren’t expecting overnight success.

She said, “This is day one of a new Daybreak. Naturally we expect a mix of views with regards to the change as the programme beds in.”

Here’s a reminder of the re-launched show from yesterday…

So what do you think of the new Daybreak?

Lorraine is too mumsy for an early morning newsy show, like listening to your aunty! And Aled looks like he has just stepped out of the men’s outfitters shop window.
