Fans of hit drama DCI Banks will no doubt be excited to hear that the series is back baby yeah and kicks off with an episode entitled Wednesday’s Child which airs tonight at 9pm.

As we’ll see, DS Annie Cabbot (Andrea Lowe) is back from maternity leave, and she’s thrown head-first into a truly harrowing case…

And we’re also set to see what’s next after Annie and Banks (Stephen Tomkinson) finally acknowledged that they have a mutual attraction at the end of the last series. But can a relationship between them ever be a viable option, given all the obstacles that would undoubtedly be in the path of it?

Meanwhile, DI Helen Morton (Caroline Catz) has to tackle her rigid approach to both her work and home life, and it seems she’s looking to Banks for answers, but can he help her to figure out when the rules can be bent and when she’s right to stick to the letter of the law?

Time will tell, but for now, as mentioned above, the first case confronting Banks and his team – in Wednesday’s Child – starts with a strange and disturbing child abduction that’s apparently carried out by a man and a woman posting as social workers.

The episode’s official synopsis reads, “When a man and a woman claiming to be social workers come to Katy Heath’s house and tell her that they need to take away her son Kyle, Katy complies.

“But when they fail to return her son and are unknown by social services, DCI Alan Banks is quickly drawn into a full-scale search for the missing boy.”

DCI Banks and the team must find out why Kyle’s been abducted, and as they face a race against time, what are the chances that he’ll be found alive?

Well, when a search of Katy’s house uncovers a drugs connection, and then when witnesses – including Kyle’s dad – begin to disagree with Katy’s version of events, Banks has to question the authenticity of Katy’s account, while trying to figure out why she would lie about something so horrendous.

And with the search becoming ever more frantic, Banks must find a way to bring together his colleagues so that their focus is on nothing other than the hunt for Kyle, but is it all too late?
