Demi Lovato has opened up about her time in rehab and the reason as to why she entered the facility. The ‘X Factor USA’ judge also spoke about how her time in rehab showed her who her real friends were.

The ‘Heart Attack’ star recently released her first book ‘Staying Strong’ which went on to become a New York Times bestseller and she quickly revealed that she would be starting her autobiography.

While she was excited to be writing her autobiography she confessed that she was nervous at the same time because it is set to be a lot more personal than her self-help book.

Lovato entered rehab at a young age and spoke to Access Hollywood about her drinking and drug issues and said that she entered the facility to set a good example to her younger sister.

She said: “The last time that I had an intervention, it was my management, my entire team, manager, lawyers, everyone, and my parents coming into a room saying if you don’t get sober – my mom specifically said, ‘You know, we’re going to move back to Texas and you’re not going to be able to be around your little sister’.”

She added: “I had to set an example for Madison… I had to protect her and [Demi] knew that. So when I said, ‘I’m moving back to Texas,’ she knew that I finally meant it that time, and that’s when we all sat down with her and said, ‘This is it, you have to make a change or we’re all going our separate ways because if you don’t want this career, we’re not going to want it for you.'”

The singer also spoke about discovering who her real friends were during her time in rehab and that only a small group of people called to make sure she was okay.

“I lost friends when I came out of treatment because I realised who wasn’t there for me. I can list about five or six people that called me and made sure that I was okay.”

“Selena was there for me. She called me crying and I was like, ‘Why are you crying?’ Taylor Swift sent me an e-mail saying, ‘Hey, I don’t know if you have a phone right now, but are you okay? Miley, too. But there weren’t many more than that.”
