Just days after BBC Breakfast presenter Natasha Kaplinsky announced she was leaving the BBC for a spot on channel Five, fellow Breakfast presenter Dermot Murnaghan has announced that he is leaving for Sky.
“I look back proudly and fondly at the five years on BBC Breakfast and wish the team there all the best,” he said.
He added that he was “looking forward to the challenges” offered by the Sky News Today programme, which he will host from 1 January.
John Ryley, Sky’s head of news, described Murnaghan as “one of the best broadcasters in Britain”.
“Dermot is a first-class interviewer who handles breaking news and anchors set piece events effortlessly and intelligently.”
