We told you a few weeks ago it was happening, but today we have had official confirmation, that one of the best TV series to come out of America in recent years will be coming to ITV1 next month.
Here’s a bit more about the show, for those of you who have yet to catch it.
How does a man charged with helping to solve some of Miami’s most heinous crimes by day commit the same brutal acts by night? What happens in a city where serial killers have a stalker of their own? Where does the line between vigilante hero end and serial killer begin? DexterTM is a twisted story of a police department forensics expert, who spends his off-time pursuing killers who have eluded justice. Is it possible for a serial killer to be a hero? These questions are explored as ITV1 brings Dexter to a UK terrestrial television audience for the first time.
Based on the compelling novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, Dexter Morgan is an unusual crime thriller series starring Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under). Orphaned at the age of four and harbouring a traumatic secret, Dexter is adopted by a police officer, Harry Morgan (James Remar, Sex and the City), who recognizes Dexter’s homicidal tendencies and guides his son to channel his gruesome passion for human vivisection in a constructive way.
Dexter becomes a forensics expert for the Miami Metro Police Department and moonlights as a serial killer with a cause, killing those heinous perpetrators who are above the law or who have slipped through the cracks of justice. A respected member of the police force, a perfect gentleman and a man with a soft spot for children, it’s hard not to like Dexter. Although his drive to kill is unflinching, he struggles to emulate normal emotions he doesn’t feel, and to keep up his appearance as a caring, socially responsible human being. Dexter takes us deep inside the mind of a killer and forces audiences to grapple with the ethical dilemma of determining right and wrong. Vigilante-style justice and murder are put on trial and the verdict may be shocking.
Dexter will launch on ITV1 on the 27th of February.

Murder is an atrocity. All entertainment based on such atrocity is itself an atrocity and an offence against humanity. Real or imagined, violent death is not entertainment, no matter how cleverly conceived or contrived and no matter from what perspective it is presented. It is infinitely worse than pornography. It is a shameful perversion of the human capacity for compassion. If you want to watch crime, murder and degradation, watch the news instead. No-one has to make it up. No-one should profit from it. No-one should pay to see it. Not everyone who reads this will disagree; to them I say: Stand against violence in any form. Resist its manifestation in thought, word, image or deed. Defy those who propagate it.
