There has been some talk about a Dexter spin-off for some time now, even before the series wrapped last year, but over the past month or two, the rumour mill has been a little bit quiet.
However, Showtime’s president David Nevins has kick-started the rumour mill again stating that talks have been ongoing about a new Dexter-themed show, but they have only been ‘light conversations’.
As much as we don’t want to get our hopes up about seeing a Dexter spin-off, we can’t help it when David Nevins reveals that it is something the network has spoken about.
Speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Nevins said: “It’s something we continue to talk about. If we were to do it, we would have to have a very good reason to do it.
“There have been some light, ongoing conversations. It would have to feel like it’s a new show. I’m not interested in doing it if it’s just a continuation”.
Unfortunately, one barrier that they will have to overcome is that Nevins will only consider a spin-off show if Michael C. Hall would reprise his role of Dexter.
“It would have to involve Michael [C. Hall],” Nevins continued “I think if we were to do it, I would only do it if it is with Michael”.
But, Michael C. Hall has previously said that he would consider reprising his role as Dexter, but he doesn’t want to think about the possibilities until he is presented with a script. As the moment, it is of course all just rumours but seeing as both Hall and Showtime are up for the idea, I don’t see why not.
Dexter was one of the best-rated shows on the network during its run, so it’d be brilliant to see some sort of spin-off show in the future, wouldn’t you agree?
Would you like to see a Dexter spin-off featuring Michael C. Hall or do you think Showtime should leave Dexter to retire?
