We all know of the hit Disney movie ‘Frozen’ by now, and whether you’ve seen the full film or not, you’ll have seen references to it all over social media or even just clips of it on TV. We all know about it…
And that being the case, it’s been a massive success from the beginning, and that doesn’t show any signs of slowing down as the Official Charts Company have confirmed it could become the decade’s biggest seller.
This week, ‘Frozen’ has set a new sales landmark according to the Official Charts Company after it managed to shift 3 million copies since its official release on DVD and Blu-ray.
The movie follows the adventures of Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf the (of course) talking snowman.
The Official Charts Company have also confirmed that the film is also leading the way to become the biggest selling DVD/Blue-ray of the past ten years.
Since the beginning of 2010, only ‘Skyfall’ and ‘Avatar’ have sold more than 3 million copies, and last week alone, Frozen shifted 160,000 copies, so it overtook ‘Skyfall’.
It’s fast closing in on ‘Avatar’ too, and with less than a month to go until the end of the year, Disney have their sing-a-long version to thank for the sudden boost in sales, oh and Christmas.
‘Frozen’ has also become one of the 20 biggest DVD and Blu-ray releases of all time – it currently sits at No15 – and if it overtakes Avatar, it will cement its place in the Top 10.
The DVD/Blu-ray was first released back in Spring, and in its opening week sold 899,000 sales and topped the Official Video Chart for four weeks.
Its soundtrack has also had a huge amount of success and is currently the second biggest selling album of 2014 having landed more than 800,000 sales.
And as if all of the above wasn’t accolade enough, ‘Frozen’ has also become the highest-grossing Disney branded movie of all time and the biggest animation of all-time after making more than $1 billion in the global box office.
