DISPATCHES: THE TRUTH ABOUT BEAUTY CREAMS

In the UK we now spend an estimated half a billion pounds every year on face creams that claim to make women - and men - look younger.

The marketing for these creams often features scientific, hi-tech sounding ingredients, yet unlike drug companies the beauty industry does not have to publish clinical trials showing whether these creams are effective.

Dispatches investigates the promises made by some of the best-selling anti-aging creams. The results of the trials surprise the experts, and will surprise the millions of women and men who buy these creams.

I really enjoyed this documentary. My favourite part was how manufacturers are allowed to claim their creams have anti-aging properties purely on the basis that they contain sunblock. Indeed, in reducing the amount of damaging UV radiation that reaches the skin, sunblock does slow the effects of aging and hence these creams are anti-aging. Of course you could just buy sunblock and it would be cheaper and more effective.
