Doc Martin star Martin Clunes says the Doc and Louisa WILL get married in new series!

Martin Clunes has revealed to the Radio Times that when hit comedy drama Doc Martin returns to our screens next year with a new series, viewers will need to buy a new hat as the Doc Martin Ellingham is marrying Louisa, who’s played by Caroline Catz!

Of the new series, which Martin has previously said may be the last, he said of returning to Port Isaac in Cornwall where the show is filmed, “I can’t wait to go back there.

“It will be interesting because Louisa and the doctor are finally going to marry, I think.”

However, he added, “But I don’t want to give too much away!”

The origins of the series lie with the film Saving Grace in which Martin played a character called Dr Martin Bamford, and in two made for TV spin-offs, his character was a successful obstetrician who discovered that his wife had had numerous affairs…

After confronting her about the affairs, and then leaving her, he headed for Cornwall, and following the departure of the Portwenn’s resident GP, he decided to stay in village.

But aside from playing the role of the Doc, Martin has of course starred in numerous other shows, and last night, he featured in a documentary about the plight of some of Madagascar’s rare lemur population.

Of that, Martin said, “It was a life ambition realised because as a child I always said it was my favourite country.

“I went on two trips out there and in total probably spent a month exploring the island.

“Not bad work, if you can get it…

“We went out there to highlight the plight of the lemurs as they have obviously suffered as a consequence and are a good entry point to the issue because they are so cute…

“The crayfish population has also suffered but they are harder to warm to.”

And of what lies immediately ahead for him, and if that includes more reality shows, Martin said, “I have just got back from Kenya where we re-homed an orphan lion cub – what an amazing experience!

“But first and foremost I am an actor.”

The new series of Doc Martin is expected to air in the summer next year.
