With the countdown for Christmas getting ever closer, the BBC have released some very special pictures from their festive line up to whet our appetites!
Doctor Who fans have really been spoilt this year, last month we have had a celebration to mark the momentous 50th anniversary of the show, with a special episode to match no other featuring more Doctor’s than you could shake a stethoscope at, as well as a vast selection of specials surrounding it.
But with all that going on just a few weeks ago it could have been easy to forget that we have another landmark occasion occurring in just a few weeks’ time, as current Time Lord Matt Smith bows out of the popular BBC family sci-fi series this Christmas Day.
And of course, when one Doctor leaves, another appears in the shows tradition of regeneration, and this time around we will see Peter Capaldi take the iconic role and make it his own.
All this is due to happen this Christmas Day, and the BBC have now released some very juicy pictures ahead of the much-anticipated episode, and from the looks of it this festive special is set to be as memorable as November 23rd!
The five pictures from the episode, which is due to be shown at 7.30pm on BBC1, include what looks like the official artwork for the episode, which is entitled The Time of the Doctor, showing Matt Smith and his companion Jenna-Louise Coleman in a clock mechanism, surrounded by all different sorts of monsters and show symbols.
In another we can see Smith and Coleman walking across a snow scattered ground, looking behind them with Smith waving his iconic sonic screwdriver in front of an outside Christmas tree.
The last three show Smith looking a tad frantic making a telephone call from the Tardis, Smith on his own at a moment we can only imagine is pretty close to the regeneration as the next one shows a very sad Coleman with what looks like the sonic screwdriver in her hand.
Coleman has previously discussed the episode, explaining how sad she felt to be losing Smith whilst exclaiming that the script was amazing yet traumatic at the same time.
But it is not all doom and gloom as, when Smith leaves, Capaldi will enter, an event we have all been chomping at the bit to see.
Doctor Who, The Time of the Doctor, can be seen at 7.30pm on Christmas Day on BBC1 / BBC 1 HD – Watch the first official teaser trailer for it in the clip below:
