With only a few weeks left till Matt Smith makes his grand Doctor Who exit, the BBC have released a few more sneaky peak spoiler pictures to help whet our appetites!
Matt Smith, who has been the current Time Lord since January 1 2010, announced his decision to leave the show back in June, sparking a bit of a speculation fest over who would replace him.
After many names being thrown in to a rather large hat it was eventually announced that his successor would be Scottish The Thick Of It star, Peter Capaldi, and that the regeneration into him would take place this Christmas Day.
Since then all focus was switched to last month’s epic 50th anniversary celebrations which saw Smith lead an all-star cast, including his predecessor and companion David Tennant and Billie Piper, in the special episode, The Day of the Doctor, which saw the infamous character face his biggest challenge yet – himself.
But now that the celebrations are over it is time to start preparing ourselves for the end of an era, and the start of a new one as Christmas Day is only weeks away. And, whilst we are all desperately excited to see what Capaldi has to offer, we are more than a little sad at the thought of Smith, and his bow tie, leaving our Doctor Who screens.
However, one thing that Doctor Who is good at is making sure that even the saddest moments, especially those regarding a departing Doctor, are surrounded in a blanket of excitement, celebration and drama – And from the look of these new pictures, Christmas Day’s special episode, The Time of the Doctor, is to be no exception to this rule.
In the pictures we can see Smith’s companion, Jenna-Louise Coleman,a guest appearance from Orla Brady, who is playing mysterious Tasha Lem, as well as snaps of some of the monsters set to star in the episode, including the classic Daleks and Cybermen along with younger nemesis’ the Weeping Angels and the Silence.
No pictures have surfaced yet showing Capaldi, who actually made his show debut in the 50th anniversary episode – well his eyes did anyway, in the episode, but we do have a couple of fun festive ones including Jenna-Louise Coleman holding a Christmas turkey.
Doctor Who ‘The Time of the Doctor’ is due to be shown on Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25) at 7.30pm for an hour long special on BBC One and 9/8c for US viewers.
