As more and more details of this year’s celebrations to mark Doctor Who’s birthday come to light, it has been revealed that included in the celebrations is a 3-day-long star-studded party to be held in the shows honour!
According to the Mirror newspaper this event is expected to see thousands of fans flocking to catch a glimpse of all the stars from throughout the shows history gathering at London’s ExCel Centre in November.
This latest celebration, which it is being created by BBC Worldwide and which it is expected over 15,000 Time Lord fans will descend upon on November 23, with the ExCel celebration beginning a day earlier, is the latest announcement in an already hugely impressive celebratory line up.
In honour of the Doctor’s birthday there is a special anniversary episode of the show, with rumours of many a star planned to make an appearance including Torchwood’s John Barrowman, as well as a docu-film being made for BBC2 depicting how the show was created.
Also, Doctor Who is getting a shiny new website in the next few months, www.doctorwho.tv , which will focus on each of the actors who have portrayed the Time Lord as well as chronicling other activities to mark the landmark anniversary.
The Royal Mail are also marking the occasion by releasing a set of 11 Doctor Who stamps later this month and Harlequin Goldsmiths has created a set of silver and gold collectors’ statues, as well as jewellery for men and women in honour of the hugely popular BBC sci-fi entertainment show.
Amanda Hill, the chief brands officer at BBC Worldwide, said: “We cannot wait to welcome Doctor Who fans from around the world to London in November. It’s going to be a spectacular weekend.
“Generations of fans young and old have been captivated by The Doctor and we’ve seen the show go from strength to strength, enjoying something of a global march over the past few years, attracting new followers from Turkey to Brazil to SouthKorea.
