Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: Billie Piper states it’s like “going home” and talks working with Tennant again
David Tennant’s former companion (well, when he played the Doctor), Billie Piper has spoken about her return to the drama for the 50th anniversary, likening it to “returning home”.
Piper who played the role of Rose Tyler, and the character in which she will be returning as during the 50th anniversary celebrations, has stated “it’s like going home” when asked about her return to the show, adding “it’s a real gift”.
Speaking at a press event, piper said: “I don’t know how much I’m allowed to talk about it… I don’t know if I’m allowed to say anything. It’s like going home – it’s a real gift, you know, that is a gift, the show and obviously it’s a special one because it’s the 50 years celebration. You feel it’s very much for the fans, and you really feel that on this particular episode”.
Speaking about filming with David Tennant and Matt Smith again, she said: “I really love working with them as actors but I also know them as people. They are both very different and brilliant people and full of life and character, well… they’re friends, so it’s quite weird talking about them in this way. We’re mates, they’re brilliant!”
Piper played Rose Tyler from 2005 – 2006 as a regular series member and played a recurring role right up until 2010 alongside David Tennant as the Doctor.
When asked about her character and what it is that makes the character so popular, she said: “I don’t know what it is about Rose Tyler!”
Piper will reprise her role for the 50th anniversary episode later this year. Matt Smith, David Tennant, Jenna-Louise Coleman, Jemma Redgrave, John Hurt, Joanna Page and Ingrid Oliver will all also be returning for the celebrations.
