As we reported this week, Doctor Who actor Matt Smith is set to be leaving the hit BBC show, and will appear for the last time in the Christmas special in December…

However, it seems he may not be the only one who’s offski as today, the Daily Mirror report that writer Steven Moffat could also be leaving, having told Entertainment Weekly that it’s “knackering” working on the show.

EW states of Moffat that he is “statistically he is nearer the end than the beginning” of his time with Doctor Who, however, he didn’t definitively say he would be departing…

However, he did say, “It’s one of those jobs that I take moment by moment,” but added, “I couldn’t do this for seven years. I’d be run into the ground.

“I don’t think you can sustain it.

“And your life outside of it is … I don’t know.

“I hope I don’t sound too pessimistic. It’s just I don’t think my body or my life or the people around me could sustain it.”

The show of course returns to BBC1 next Saturday with an episode entitled The Bells of Saint John. You can click here to see poster art from the new series as well as a set of clips.

  1. Liz says:

Just bring back David tennett and watch your ratings go up

Oh, shut up! Firstly, not everyone perfers David Tennant. Secondly, ratings don’t mean a thing to a show like Doctor Who, as it has a fandom so large that even when there is no hope of improvment it will still have more viewers than shows in their prime. And thirdly, look at the ratings! Matt Smith’s tenure has much higher ratings than David Tennant’s ever did!
