David Tennant has revealed that he begged BBC producers to base Doctor Who’s look and style on that of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

Tennant, who plays ‘the doctor’ in the show, was inspired by Oliver’s look when he appeared on Parkinson alongside former Doctor Who actress BILLIE PIPER.

He says, “I’d always wanted a long coat because you’ve kind of got to swish.

“Then Billie was on Parky the same week as Jamie Oliver, who was looking rather cool in a funky suit with trainers. And I rang Russell T Davies and said, ‘Are you watching this? Could we do this for the Doctor?’ “They had wanted me to wear a stompy pair of posh boots, but the trainers were the one thing I did go to the wall on.”
