Doctor Who: Burn Gorman says Torchwood has “closed the door” for him to replace Matt Smith!
With the race still on to see just who will be asked to be Matt Smith’s replacement on the hit BBC family sci-fi entertainment show Doctor Who, there is one person who isn’t holding his breath, Torchwood star Burn Gorman!
Matt Smith, who took the iconic baton from David Tennant back in 2010, announced earlier this year that he will be bowing out of the show during this year’s Christmas Special.
Since then everyone has been trying to guess just who will be brought in to replace him, with huge names from Harry Potter star Rupert Grint to Dame Helen Mirren as speculation mounts that the 12th Time Lord could see the first black or female actor cast for the epic role.
However, one name that has not been linked to the role is Gorman, and he thinks that is because he starred in the shows spin-off series, Torchwood.
The actor who played Owen Harper in the show, and who doesn’t sound bitter at all, explained to Digital Spy:
“I’m afraid the Doctor Who door is probably closed because of me being in Torchwood,
“I’m really excited to see who it will be, let’s hope they go with someone different but I’m sure whoever they choose will be amazing.”
Gorman went on to praise his Torchwood fan base, saying:
“I’m a fan myself so I understand where [the obsession] comes from and in terms of the whole Doctor Who/Torchwood fandom.
“They are the most educated fans in the world and I’ve seriously never had anything but great feedback. I had a great time doing Torchwood, I really did.”
