Doctor Who - Gridlock, Face Of Boe Dead
Yes! Although Gridlock wasn’t the most thrilling episode of Doctor Who ever, I finally feel like the series is starting to take shape.
Martha seems to be coming to terms with what it means to be The Doctor’s assistant, and she realised in Gridlock that if she dies while in the future, her family will never know what happened to her. Cue a return to London in a later episode and getting to meet Martha’s family. I’m dying to find out what sort of role Reggie Yates has as her brother…
Better still, the mysterious Face Of Boe breathed his last after sacrificing himself to save the inhabitants of New New York. But, before he dies, the Face utters his legendary last words to The Doctor. Implying that The Doctor is not the last of his kind, he’s set the scene for the the entry of another Time Lord into the series.
Don’t believe me? Well, the last two series of Doctor Who have had a prevailing theme. Series 1 had Bad Wolf running all the way through it, up to the final episode where Rose absorbs the heart of the TARDIS. Series 2 was all about Torchwood, leading up to the cross-dimensional rip they opened in Canary Wharf and the eventual separation of Rose from The Doctor.
So, will Series 3 be all about the return of a Time Lord? I think so. And I’m happy to speculate that the Time Lord in question is none other then The Master, The Doctor’s long-time adversary who was supposedly killed during the movie version. The Wikipedia entry about The Master has recently been updated with the latest rumours about casting for the role in this series.
So, I’m very much looking forward to the return of another potentially more dangerous adversary for The Doctor in this series. I wonder how long it’ll be before this storyline boils over….
And I also wonder….if the Face Of Boe is dead now, where the hell’s The Rest Of Boe?

I actually like the series story arc. I think that’s a great idea, and it’s subtle enough for one to totally miss it if they are not looking at it, (meaning they are stand alone shows). In regards to the return of the Master, it wouldn’t be surprising. This isn’t the first time the Master has come back from the dead. In the TV movie, he was being transported after being executed by the Daleks (why did they have the priviledge of exterminationg him?) But will the return of the Master mean the possible return of other Timelords? If not, I’d love for this series to touch on the final whereabouts of such timelords as Susan or Romona; or even Leela. She was on Gallifrey, did she leave during the timewar or was she sent away, possibly with her husband? Time will tell I guess.

Jeff, what the hell are you smoking? I’m amazed that anyone can pinpoint particular Time Lords and where we last saw them!
It’s an interesting point you made about the others though - it’s a bit hard to believe that every Time Lord was involved in the Last Great Time War. Why shouldn’t there be a few errant ones somewhere in the universe?
