Doctor Who: John Hurt to play “missing link dark Doctor” for 50th anniversary hints costume designer!
It’s been reported today that a costume designer on the set of Doctor Who has intimated that veteran actor John Hurt is set to play the role of the “Dark Doctor” who’s the missing link between the Time Lord’s regenerations…
The Daily Mirror reports, “Howard Burden, who showed Prince Charles and Camilla a selection of costumes from the show during yesterday’s royal tour of the BBC studios in Cardiff, is believed to have said that John Hurt will play a ‘missing link’ in the Time Lord regeneration process.”
He apparently said, “There was a gap between Paul McGann playing the Doctor and Christopher Eccleston, when we didn’t see a regeneration…
“And John Hurt will fit into that gap. He is a past Doctor, not a future Doctor.”
However, though Hurt has been spotted filming for the anniversary special in a number of locations over the past few weeks, he’s remained tight-lipped about what his role involves.
He told The Telegraph recently, “I’m sworn to secrecy about my character and my scenes.”
But in May, John did drop a hint about his role to the Eastern Daily Press, saying he plays “part of the doctor” and that his character is in a “kind of trinity” which also features David Tennant, who of course played the tenth incarnation of the Doctor.
As fans of Doctor Who will probably know, the special 50th anniversary episode is being shot in 3D as well as HD, and will be shown in cinemas around the world at the same time as it’s screened on BBC1 on November 23.
