Doctor Who: Matt Smith says he wont be around long enough to play the Doctor in a movie!

Current Time Lord, Matt Smith has revealed that it is unlikely he will play Doctor Who if it is turned into a film, as he doubts he will still be around!

Rumours that a film is already in the works have been circulating for months, with Harry Potter director, David Yates being linked to the project. It is claimed that the movie will take the character to a completely new level, rather than a feature-length continuation from the TV show.

However, Smith has told the website Collider that if it were to come to the big screen then he  would probably not star in it, given the time it would take to bring it to the screen.

“I think it would take four or five years to get something off the ground, and I don’t anticipate that I’ll be playing the Doctor then,’”he said.

“My skin and the ageing process couldn’t take it.

The actor did go on, however, to express his opinions of who should be cast in the film, saying: ”For my money, whoever is playing the Doctor should be in the movie. I don’t think there should be two Doctors.”

He went on to say how he believed that current writer Steven Moffat should be given the job of penning the script for a film version.

“I think they should get Steven to write it because he’s the best,” Smith said.

The first episode of the new Doctor Who web series, entitled Asylum Of The Daleks, will premiere at the BFI Southbank in August and will also be shown at the Edinburgh International TV Festival which runs from August 23-25.
