Ahead of the much-anticipated series finale of Doctor Who, The Name of the Doctor, it has been reported that the episode is set to unveil many secrets, and some pretty harsh consequences too!
The name alone suggests that we are in for a treat, especially after show runner Steven Moffat revealed that a huge secret that would change the dynamics of the show forever would be revealed.
But does that mean we will finally discover the identity of the Doctor himself? Possibly, but then again, possibly not.
According to the official Doctor Who Magazine, the conclusion of this episode, as well as if the Doctors name will be revealed, is still a closely guarded secret.
However, some spoilers it did mention was the fact that during this episode we will finally get to discover the true identity of the Doctor’s new companion Clara Oswald (Jenna-Louise Coleman), and that not everyone in the episode will make it out alive!
According to the mag, the storyline for the series 7 final episode will see the Doctor (Matt Smith) and Clara head to Trenzalore, the most dangerous place in the Universe, and the one place he should never go, after Clara is summoned to an impossible conference call, alerting her that the deadly Whisper Men are closing in on Vastra, Jenny and Strax.
His reason for going there is to rescue kidnapped friends, though who is kidnapping them remains a mystery, with the mag teasing ‘could the Fall of the Eleventh be nigh?’
According to the publication the Doctor’s past, present and future lives are at stake, and that his biggest secret is about to be revealed!
A quote from the episode sees the Doctor saying: “The path I carved through time and space, from Gallifrey to Trenzalore. My own personal time tunnel, leading back to every moment I ever lived. Every step, every tear, every kiss. Even the days I haven’t lived yet. Which is why I shouldn’t be here. The paradoxes… very bad…”
Joining the Doctor and Clara in this epic episode are Richard E Grant reprising his role as Dr Simeon and Alex Kingston as Post-Library River Song.
Steven Moffat is quoted as saying, with regards to the Doctor’s feelings for River Song:
“You never quite know what the Doctor feels. I don’t think you ever should.”
The final teasers given were that there was to be more snogging, though it doesn’t definitively say with whom, and that nothing will ever be the same again!
