As fans of Doctor Who are sure to know, former Doctor actor David Tennant has returned to filming for the hit sci-fi show’s 50th anniversary special, as has Billie Piper, who played the role of sidekick Rose Tyler…

And while speaking to TV & Satellite Week about returning to the set of Doctor Who, David – who’s currently starring in ITV drama, Broadchurch – said that being part of the show again “feels very familiar and comfortable.”

As we reported recently, the cast – which includes former Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page and screen veteran John Hurt – were spotted filming in Wales, and it was while on-set that David remarked, “It is strange being back in the same suit…

“But it also feels very familiar and comfortable. There’s nothing quite like Doctor Who.

“It has a wonderful excitement about it. I always had happy times there.”

And of filming alongside Billie, David said, “It’s lovely to be around Billie again, even though I see her all the time anyway.”

The special episode is set to bring back classic Doctor Who monsters the Zygons, but according to writer Robert Banks Stewart, they won’t be the only adversarial baddies the Doctor will face.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Stewart remarked, “The Zygons are in there with all the others – particularly the Daleks and the Cybermen…

“[But] nobody yet knows what the plot of the 50th will be – Steven Moffat and his team in Cardiff, they are quite rightly keeping it all secret.

“My own personal opinion is that the modern Doctor Who should be aimed more at children.

“People very fondly remembered being scared by Doctor Who – now the plots seem to me a little too adult.”

Are you excited to see the special episode? For now, here’s a reminder of the show’s trailer…
