Doctor Who star Karen Gillan has joined the cast of Sky1′s A Touch of Cloth!
As fans of Doctor Who will know, Karen Gillan is bowing out of the show in the forthcoming series, though as yet, the fate of her character Amy Pond hasn’t been revealed. That said, it’s widely rumoured that Amy is set to die in series seven, which debuts later this month.
However, Digital Spy exclusively reveal today that Gillan has revealed to them that she’s about to start filming for a role in police procedural parody, A Touch of Cloth, which is written by Dead Set creator, Charlie Brooker.
DS state, “Gillan refused to give away any details about her character, but added that she will begin filming for the programme soon.”
A Touch of Cloth, which stars John Hannah and former Corrie star Suranne Jones, is set to air in two parts on Sky1 from Sunday, August 26th at 9pm…
Here’s what Radio Times says of it…
1/2. Part one of two. Spoof crime drama by Charlie Brooker about DCI Jack Cloth (John Hannah), a maverick, alcoholic, widowed detective, and his incompetent partner DC Anne Oldman (Suranne Jones), who is redeemed only by her taste in personalised ringtones. The pair investigate a series of gruesome murders, and are assisted by foul-mouthed pathologist Natasha Sachet (Daisy Beaumont) and results-obsessed chief Tom Boss (Julian Rhind-Tutt).
And of course, Karen is no stranger to comedic acting, having begun her TV career playing the roles of multiple characters in The Kevin Bishop Show.
She also played the role of Ginny in Channel 4’s Stacked, and of course later became the Doctor’s sidekick in May 2009. Karen’s cousin Caitlin Blackwood portrayed a young Amy Pond during the episode which introduced the character.
