Doctor Who star Matt Smith among stellar line-up for Disney Junior’s ‘A Poem Is’

Some of the UK biggest names in television have signed up to take part in a new childrens’ TV show entitled ‘A Poem Is’ which debuts on Disney Junior UK on April 30th at 5.25pm.

And one of those stars is Doctor Who actor Matt Smith, who will read Jack Prelutsky’s poem, Once They All Believed in Dragons, which will come to life as Matt reads using Disney animations.

Other stars who’ll perform readings include Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams and Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery.

Matt, who is of course currently filming the new series of Doctor Who – the Christmas finale of which will introduce Jenna-Louise Coleman as the Doctor’s new companion – told the PA that he took part in the show in order to encourage children to take an interest in creative writing…

He said, “I’ve always had an enthusiasm for poetry and creative writing, having studied it at university…

“And as an actor, it’s so vital to my art to have an understanding and appreciation for classic literature.”

He added that A Poem Is would introduce “a whole new generation of young minds [to] a way of learning and sharing poetry.

“And the fact that it’s set to some of the most iconic Disney animations just makes the whole experience so enjoyable”.

As mentioned, the series begins on April 30 on Disney Junior UK at 5.25pm.
