Downsize My Pet on Living2

LIVING2 has exclusively acquired a brand new ten part series, Downsize My Pet (2 x 60 & 8 x 30) from Target Entertainment, which will air in LIVING2’s peak time schedule from January 2008. This series which has previously aired in New Zealand (September 2007), takes a look into the obesity epidemic now hitting our household pets and explores the various problems and methods to overcome owning an unhealthy pet.

From the producers of Downsize Me (previously aired on LIVING2 in 2006 and 2007), Downsize My Pet looks into the bad health issues surrounding the animals involved and identifies the specific problems ranging from respiratory disease, diabetes and liver disease to gastric disorders. Downsize My Pet will follow six families and their pets as they undergo a strict ‘turnaround regime’ of diet and fitness training in order to get their animals fit and healthy. As well as this, the owners are also given a 24 hour wake up call – the ‘Crash Diet Doggie Dummy’ experiment and forced to eat the equivalent of how much their pet consumes in 24 hours. With one owner being forced to eat over 3 kilos of luncheon sausage just for lunch, they quickly begin to understand the relative amount they have been feeding their pets!

Downsize My Pet is presented by expert vet Sacha Nowell, finalist in Petplan ‘Vetenarian of the Year’ awards and leading dog trainer Alexis Banis. The show follows six different pets including dogs, cats and a miniature horse through the paces of initially getting healthy, right through to the final weigh in to see if they have met their target weight.

As a nation of animal lovers who enjoy to pampering our pets, Downsize My Pet fully addresses the true impact of over-feeding, under-walking and excessively loving our companions.
