That Mrs Patmore has a lot to answer for, given that it’s been reported today that the cast of Downton Abbey have been told to lose weight ahead of the new series, and just to make sure they do, the show’s bosses have apparently reduced their snack time!
According to The Sun newspaper, all of the show’s cast – and even Downton writer Julian Fellowes – are “addicted” to the sandwiches that are provided for them to munch on between takes during filming…
And it seems that thanks to the generous on-set buffets, Downton’s wardrobe staff are now worried that if the cast star piling on the pounds, it will put extra pressure on the seams of their already rather unforgiving costumes!
Discussing the situation in a recent interview with The Sun, Rob James Collier, who plays scheming butler Thomas Barrow in the hit ITV period drama, explained: “The biggest challenge is keeping the weight off between scenes.”
Fellowes – who has recently been teasing storylines ahead of the show’s returns this autumn – added: “The feeling is there’s not a better egg sandwich in England.
“But the cast have asked to cut down. Between takes and re-shoots, some actors were munching through a loaf’s worth of sarnies.”
But it’s not just their costumes the cast need to make sure they can fit into as the show’s stars will soon be having to fish out their glad rags as they prepare to find out how many of the whopping TWELVE Emmy nominations the show has received will result in a win during next month’s awards ceremony.
That’s right, the hugely popular UK drama has been given twelve nods from the highly acclaimed US award body, including awards for the likes of Michelle Dockery, who has been nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama, Jim Carter for Supporting Actor and Joanne Froggatt for Supporting Actress.
Meanwhile, Paul Giamatti has been nominated for best guest actor in a drama for his appearance in Downton.
The winners will be announced on August 25.
For now, here’s a reminder of the cast of the show in the last series…
