Downton Abbey “chaos” over worries some of the show’s stars will quit!
According to the Mirror, a fourth and fifth series of the hit period drama are already in the pipeline, and a number of the cast have already committed to filming for those new series…
But Dame Maggie and Dan – who play the Dowager Duchess and Matthew Crawley respectively – haven’t, and as it’s expected that Matthew will marry Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) in the third series, the character is of course a pivotal one.
A show insider said, “Downton Abbey has a history of major surprises, and the producers are not opposed to changing casting within the show to add to the drama.
“But it’s hard to imagine the series without Maggie Smith or Dan Stevens involved in some way.
“To write the Dowager Countess out of the series, or even kill off the character, would be Downton’s boldest storyline yet.”
“ITV have not yet commissioned a fourth and fifth series which, if they happen, would be a long way off.”
The third series of Downton will air later this year.
