First Lady of the USA, Michelle Obama, is so obsessed with our Downton Abbey that she has begged bosses at ITV to send her over the third series before its official US launch date, the Sun newspaper reports!
Ever since the phenomenal ITV period drama was released across the pond, the response from its US audience has been staggering, the biggest a UK TV series has ever seen, and it seems that Downton fever has reached not only across the nation, but across the White House too!
According to the publication, Michelle, who has always maintained a down to earth and approachable nature during her husband’s successful leadership of the country, has revealed that both she, and her husband President Barack Obama, are such huge fans of the show that they simply cannot wait until it’s official January 6th release date.
And it seems her pleading worked, as bosses at the ITV gave in and sent over the third series to the White House for Michelle, who appeared on her kids favourite teen show iCarly earlier this year, and her husband to enjoy over the coming festive season!
A source on the hit ITV1 show said: “We know it’s very popular in America as it’s so quintessentially British. We’d heard the Obamas liked to watch it but we were very surprised when someone from the First Lady’s office got in touch asking for the series.
“They were very polite and we were more than happy to sort out some DVDs for them to send over. Obviously we hope they keep the spoilers to themselves as our US fans may not know about… well, you know what!”
The ‘you know what’ in question is the shocking and sudden death of Lady Sybil (Jessica Findlay Brown) during childbirth half way through the series, which ended on our screens a few weeks ago.
And as a way of saying thank you, President Obama has invited Downton stars Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern — the Earl and Countess of Grantham — to his White House for dinner along with the PM David Cameron in March next year!
