A social network campaign has seen over 1,000 people backing its mission to get Dame Judi Dench cast in the epic ITV period drama, Downton Abbey!
Dame Judi Dench, who is best known for her roles as ‘M’ in the blockbuster James Bond Films Golden Eye and more recently Skyfall, has received many award nominations for her acting in theatre, film and television; her awards include eleven BAFTAs, (including the Bafta Fellowship in 2001) seven Laurence Olivier Awards, (including the Society’s Special Award) two Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Golden Globes, an Academy Award, and a Tony Award.
One of Britain’s finest national treasures, we can’t help but agree that Dame Judi would fit beautifully into the sensational phenomenon, Downton Abbey.
Downton Abbey, created by the genius that is Julian Fellowes, has captivated our hearts for three series, despite two of its most loved characters, Lady Sybil (Jessica Findlay-Brown) and Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens) being killed off in the later part of last year.
The show, which has already accumulated an impressive cabinet of awards, is already host to some of the most prestigious names in national, and international acting including the sensational Dame Maggie Smith and Shirley MacLaine, but with the recent exits surely has room for another huge star, especially one as suited for the show as Dame Judi!
Well, that is what the dedicated Facebook campaign, created only four weeks ago, thinks, as well as the 1000 or so people who have liked the page!
The page, created by Danny Epperson, is aimed at persuading Downton Abbey producers to cast Dame Judi Dench in a guest role, and has gained a huge amount of support from fans of the hit period drama.
Page creator Danny Epperson wrote: “This is a grassroots campaign to rally to have Oscar-winning actress, Dame Judi Dench guest-star on Downton Abbey to match wits with Dame Maggie Smith, the Dowager Countess on the smash hit TV program, Downton Abbey. We can do this!”
Another big Brit name, Billy Connolly, has also revealed a desire to work on the show, after getting along great with Dame Maggie Smith in ‘Quartet’.
He told Heat magazine: “I’d love to work with her again, I’m not sure how I’d fit into the Downton world, it’s maybe not quite right but it would be a laugh I guess.”
