It’s been reported today that the cast of Downton Abbey are living in fear of their characters being killed off as the show’s bosses, including writer Julian Fellowes, want to make the period drama “more exciting” for viewers.
Cast member Allen Leech, who of course plays former chauffeur Thomas Branson, told the Daily Star Sunday, “Everyone does one thing when they get their scripts – makes sure their name is still in it at the end to make sure they’re still alive…
“Only then do you start reading it properly.
“I think everyone worries they could be written out. They’ve got to keep it exciting and dramatic.
“It’s a drama at the end of the day. And that’s all certainly there for the fourth series.”
Last year’s series of course featured the death of Matthew Crawley who was played by Dan Stevens, and Branson’s wife Lady Sybil, who was played by Jessica Brown Findlay.
Of that, Allen said that he’s not sure if his character will embark on any new romances when Downton Abbey returns to our screens.
He said, “I think it might take him a while. He is still struggling with why he’s there in the first place.
“There are still a lot of emotions for him…
“The scripts for the new episodes have been really fantastic. There are some very exciting plots to look forward to.”
But he’s not giving away any spoilers, and he revealed that he’s very careful that to destroy any scripts he’s thrown away so that nobody can leak any show info.
He said, “You have to be so careful. Every script is watermarked to your name so if you lose it everyone knows it’s yours.
“I had to purchase a shredder when I got the part.”
Here’s a reminder of Allen on the show…
