‘Fergie’ The Duchess Of York is said to have thrown her hat in the ring for ITV’s This Morning vacancy.

Fern Britton will be leaving the show in July and Fergie is said to have offered her services to ITV bosses in a recent meeting about future projects on the channel.

A channel source told The Sun: “The Duchess came in to see the team and later that evening she called back to ask if she could be kept in mind for Fern’s replacement.

“She is a big fan of the show and is keen to carry on her TV work. She loves interviewing.

“As a mum, she is empathetic. The producers think she could actually be a good contender.

“Even if she doesn’t end up doing the job, we would still love her to make films for us and she could definitely be a stand-in host.”

A show spokeswoman said: “We are talking to a number of people at the moment, but will not be confirming who will be taking over from Fern until later in the year.”
