As fans of EastEnders will know, newcomer Hetti Bywater made her debut on the show this week as Lucy Beale, and she’s been telling the Daily Mirror what it’s like to be the new kid on the Walford block.
Hetti of course took on the role of Lucy from Melissa Suffield, who was axed from the show for alleged “bad behaviour.”
When asked how she’d “got into acting”, 17 year old Hetti said, “I went to a drama school on Saturdays and then I was taken up by an agent.
“I’ve done two films and some adverts, so this isn’t my first job but it is still a very big deal.”
And of how she’s settling in to the cast of EastEnders, she said, “It’s pretty overwhelming…
“I was really nervous as everyone knows each other and it’s like a big family, but they’re all really welcoming. I think I have settled in now…”
Hetti was then asked what it’s like to take on a role that was previously played by someone else, to which she replied, “It is quite difficult as everyone knew the old Lucy and what she was like, but hopefully I can put my own stamp on the character.”
The Mirror then asked Hetti to go into more detail about the storyline in which Lucy gets her prospective step-mum Mandy Salter (Nicola Stapleton) into trouble.
Hetti said, “She plants pills in Mandy’s bag and gets caught out. But Ian [Adam Woodyatt] lets her off – he will do whatever Mandy says.
“Lucy feels she’s taken her place and she wants her dad back. She has more plans to get Mandy into trouble, and some plans for Whitney [Shona McGarty].”
Meanwhile, the aforementioned Melissa Suffield has taken to Twitter to reveal that she holds no grudges against the show for sacking her, and she added that she wishes Hetti well.
She tweeted, “I’m a bigger, better, happier person now. Great starting point for me but I’ve moved on.
“And yes, give the new girl a chance – it’s a very tough job and I wish her every success.
“Like I said, I’m happier now and hope you all are x.”
