In next Tuesday’s episode of EastEnders, Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) will confess to long suffering hubby Alfie (Shane Richie) that she had a knee trembler ‘round the back of R&R with a bloke she barely knows…
As fans of the show will remember, lounge lizard type Mark Garland (Chris Simmons) first met Kat when he delivered a load of booze to the pub, and later, they met up again when Kat was out on a girls’ night out.
And ever since, he’s been hounding Kat; calling, texting and even sitting in the Vic, all of which makes Kat think she’s just going to have to spill the sordid beans to Alfie herself, before Mark does it for her.
Her decision to confess is prompted when poor sap Alfie starts waxing lyrical on how strong their marriage is.
While talking about growing old together, he tells Kat, “You know what I reckon? They’ll be the best days of our lives. I can see it now…
“Me in me West Ham slippers, smoking a pipe. You wandering around in your leopard skin support tights on a Zimmer frame.
“We’ll be old and wrinkly, but we won’t care. Because we’ll have each other.”
As the guilt becomes too much to bear, Kat ‘fesses up, saying, “I cheated on you. I’ve been with someone else.
“We done it in the alley by the R&R like animals. Let’s face it, it could have been any Tom, Dick or Harry…
“Because that’s what I am. A dirty little girl. That’s what I’ve always been. And that’s what I’ll always be.”
Kat is then set to tell Alfie that he should just ditch her while he still has the chance.
She tells him, “I’m giving you a get-out-of-jail-free card. Take it. Throw me out!”
Of the shock of Kat’s latest confession, Shane Richie told All About Soap magazine that poor Alfie will be “upset and angry.”
He said, “It’s the last thing he expected to hear. He didn’t see it coming.
“He’s upset and angry, especially when Kat tries to explain how he made her feel when he accused her of sleeping with someone else when she got pregnant again.
“He obviously didn’t mean the things he said then – he just said them in the heat of the moment, but those words have stuck with Kat.”
And when asked if Alfie will – in time – appreciate Kat being honest, Shane said, “Not at all – he’d rather not know.
“Deep down, Alfie knows that Kat has done things in the past that maybe she shouldn’t have, but he didn’t know all the details.
“Now he knows Kat has been unfaithful, he has got to confront the fact.”
But will this be the last straw for Alfie? Well, Shane wasn’t giving that away, but he did say, “They do tend to come through these things, so who knows?”
Here’s a clip of the moment Kat and Mark did the do…
What do you reckon? Will this straw be the one that break’s Alfie’s camel back? Or will he, as ever, bounce back given that he worships Kat so much?
