As part of the huge EastEnders cast re-jig, show bosses have today announced the casting of Derek Branning‘s son, Joey.
Already having featured in the soap by name, Joey Branning is set to turn up in Albert Square and make his dad, Derek, face up to his past.
The casting of Jasmyn Banks as Derek’s (Jamie Foreman) daughter was revealed earlier this year, and it is thought that Joey, who will be played by David Witts, will arrive just after his sister, in a bid to bring her back home to their mother.
Once there, Joey realises that it is Alice’s intention to stay in Walford, and so sets about proving to the naive girl just what their father is really like.
However, it would seem that Joey is more like his father than he cares to admit, with his character being described as someone who “prides himself on telling it how it is, but is in fact a compulsive liar”.
Joey is also set to be something of a ladies man, but a manipulative one at that, making them feel that they have made the first move, despite him planting the idea in their heads in the first place.
Witts commented: “I am delighted to be joining EastEnders after being a fan for so many years. Joining the Branning family couldn’t have come at a better time, especially after the recent British Soap Awards wins.”
EastEnders‘ executive producer Lorraine Newman added: “Joey is a fantastic addition to the Brannings and after an explosive entrance onto the Square, he is set to break a few hearts as he campaigns to bring Derek down.”
