Fans of EastEnders will know how ex Bill and Hollyoaks actor, Gary Lucy, is set to make his Walford debut in tonight’s 7.30pm episode.
Gary, who has also appeared in Footballers wives along with former EastEnders actress, Zoe Lucker, is playing Danny Pennant, a city banker, who arrives in the square as a shoulder to cry on for troubled Syed Masood (Marc Elliott).
Syed, who is in hot water financially having sold the family restaurant, the Argee Bhajee, in order to cover the tracks of his failed cleaning retail business, is at first annoyed at Danny’s character, as he overhears a conversation he is having with his other city dwelling friends.
However, realising that the troubled Walford regular is down, Danny strikes up a conversation with Syed after his friends leave, suggesting to him that it sometimes helps to talk through your problems with a stranger.
Right from the start, there is very apparent chemistry between Danny and Syed as they enjoy a business lunch later in the week, and when Danny surprises Syed by inviting him out for a drink later, Christian (John Partridge) arrives unexpectedly.
Oblivious to the chemistry between the pair, Christian remains none-the wiser, but with reports of a love triangle on the way for the two once lovebirds, his wedding plans may well be in vain!
Gary – who said he couldn’t sleep the night before his first gay kiss, has said that he has enjoyed the challenge of playing a gay character, commenting at the Inside Soap Awards on Monday:
“It’s different for me, a challenge, but one I’m happy to grasp and I’m enjoying.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity.”
And with Christian and Syed set to depart the soap later this year, he added: “I don’t think it’s the real reason that they leave, but I don’t think it helps much.”
Watch all the drama unfold in tonight’s EastEnders, 7.30pm on BBC1/BBC1 HD.
