The long awaited return of Ian Beale is finally happening in tonight’s EastEnders, and what a return it is set to be!
Ian (Adam Woodyatt) vanished from Albert Square a few months ago after his wedding to Mandy was cancelled at the last minute, leaving his daughter, Lucy (Hetti Bywater) to keep all the businesses and bills a float, as well as looking after her young brother whilst trying to fend off social services by pretending her father was staying with relatives.
We reported a few weeks back that Ian was due to be discovered sleeping rough with the rest of London’s homeless community, but today the Daily Star newspaper has confirmed that the scenes are due to be aired tonight when Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) finds him when helping out the community in order to get free concert tickets.
Lauren can hardly believe her eyes when she bumps into the once budding entrepreneur when delivering the food to the shelter he frequents, especially as she knows how hard her friend has had to work to juggle all the responsibilities he left behind, after all this hardly makes it seem like he is a position to come back and save the day, does it?
Lauren turns to her parents for help and they take Ian back to their house to try and clean him up, but aren’t sure whether to tell Lucy or not.
A show insider said, “Lucy has been through it these last few months trying to cope alone.
“She’s held it together while running the businesses and caring for her brother Bobby.
“When she sees the state Ian is in she has got no sympathy for him. As far as she’s concerned he should have worked through his problems and been a dad to Bobby.
“Ian has clearly had a breakdown and it’s going to take him some time to recover. There’s also the matter of Ben having killed Heather.
“With Ian now back it’s going to take some doing for him to get over what Ben did.”
Watch the drama unfold in tonight’s EastEnders on BBC2 at 7.30pm.
