EastEnders is “in crisis” after all time low viewer ratings

It seems millions of us have had enough of EastEnders’ often dreary and depressing plotlines, and we’re choosing not to watch in our droves, sparking a radical shake up of the BBC soap, including axing some of the less popular characters.
Matt Lapinskas, who plays Anthony Moon, has been ditched, and various media outlets report that the show’s bosses are considering who else should go.
It’s believed producers are considering axing more of the younger members of the cast as the show has been criticised for too many storylines that highlight teenagers’ issues.
The move to revamp the show comes as around 5.7million of us tuned into EastEnders last week, while Corrie landed 8.4million viewers…
The Sun’s TV Biz states, “Since the beginning of the year nearly ten per cent of EastEnders viewers have deserted the show.”
And of course, the situation won’t be helped as some of the show’s biggest stars take time off. Patsy Palmer and Lindsey Coulson, who play mum and daughter Bianca and Carol, are both off for six months, and later this year, Charlie Brooks, who plays Janine, is also taking a few months off.
Jo Joyner also announced that she’s having a break from her role as Tanya Branning later this year, and both Adam Woodyatt and Steve McFadden – who play Ian Beale and Phil Mitchell – are taking time off at the end of the year to star in panto.
What do you think EastEnders is doing wrong? Are there too many teenager issues? Or are the storylines just too dull overall?

Definitely too much attention paid to the younger cast members. There is no more tedious creature on earth than a teenager, being self centred is a rite of passage. But it doesn’t half make for dull viewing.
The younger characters are really good but I think EastEnders needs more people in their late 20s early 30s as that area is lacking slightly.
The ratings were only this low because of Britains Got Talent! But yeah, lots of young characters are annoying.
Tanya and Max were the main reason I stopped watching it as much as I used to. So depressing. Phil Mitchell is also a bit too depressing for my liking. That indian family are way too whiny, too. All you ever see on ‘Eastenders’ these days, is dreary, gloomy storylines. Also, why expect to keep the viewers from about twenty years ago, when all the legendary characters leave? To me ‘Eastenders’ is a whole new show. Maybe future generations want this latest kind of acting. As for me, I think way too many legendary characters have left the soap, and too many newbies drafted in. I lost interest quickly when all these new actors started appearing. Good luck Eastenders. I just really doubt it’s future.
Not only does the show have a dreary sombre atmosphere, and depressing storylines. it’s also set in an environment, which dream’s and ambition’s, should be NON-expected, or CRUSHED, to bring people’s mood’s futher down. What’s Tamwar’s future? Still unmarried with his parent’s, and a restaurant, only 10 people eat from? What’s Whitney’s? To end up like Bianca? What’s Lucy’s? To end up like ‘er mum? And so on. Yes it is REAL LIFE, that there’s those who’ve gone to the waste-side, it is ALSO REAL LIFE, that there’s those who have MADE IT. A bit more balance please
