EastEnders: Letitia Dean is coming back to Walford! Awight Princess!

by Lynn Connolly

Whoop with glee EastEnders fans for Walford royalty is headed back to the Square in the form of Letitia Dean, who – until 2006 – starred as Sharon Watts!

Letitia was of course one of the original cast of the show, playing the role of a then teenaged Sharon, who was the adopted daughter of Dirty Den and Angie Watts, who were played by Leslie Grantham and Anita Dobson.

Since the show began in 1985, Sharon has had more comebacks than Status Quo, and has starred in several high profile storylines, such as the return from the supposed dead of her dad Den, being in a relationship with her half-brother, being the plaything/wife of the Mitchell brothers, and other dramas too numerous to mention.

However, according to the Sun’s TV Biz, Letitia is coming back to Walford to fill the “strong female character” void that’s been left while Jessie Wallace is on extended leave from the show.

As we reported last week, Jessie – who of course plays Kat Moon – was said to be “exhausted” having thrown herself into her work since the breakdown of her relationship with Vince Morse last summer.

Speaking to the paper about her return to the show, Letitia said, “I’m really looking forward to being part of the EastEnders team again — it has always been very close to my heart.

“I can’t wait to work with my old colleagues and see what’s in store for Sharon.”

And EastEnders’ executive producer Bryan Kirkwood added, “I’m thrilled Letitia is coming back home to Albert Square — where she belongs. I for one can’t wait until she arrives back in the summer.”

Since leaving the show, Letitia has starred on Strictly Come Dancing as well as in drama The Hello Girls, and comedy Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married.

Here’s a reminder of the iconic moment that Den turned up in the Vic, very much alive…
