EastEnders newcomer Neil McDermott has admitted that it is getting difficult to use public transport now that he is so recognisable.

The actor, who plays Ryan Malloy in the show told MSN: “Tops of buses are dangerous places to be these days, and the Tube.”

He went on: “People come and say hello and sing theme tunes at you but it’s all good. But on the whole everyone’s been really supportive and nice to me to far so I can’t complain.”

On his nomination for a Most Popular Newcomer gong at the National Television Awards.

“I was a bit surprised because I’ve hardly been in it. Some of the other guys up for the award seem to have been doing their shows for quite a long time. But I feel very proud and privileged,” he said.
