Samantha Womack has reportedly been existing in a ‘living hell’ since she became involved in the Eastenders baby swap storyline.
The 38 year old actress plays Ronnie Mitchell/Branning in the BBC soap and was seen swapping her dead infant for Kat Moon’s healthy tot during an episode last week.
After the plot received over 9,000 complaints and some viewers even hurled abuse at her in the street, the blonde beauty handed in her resignation, blasting producers for not taking her advice on killing the storyline before it aired.
The News Of The World that Sam told a pal:
“I can’t handle any more of this. I want out of this show NOW. That storyline is sick.”
Her friend added:
“Sam’s had it with the BBC now. She wants to come out all guns blazing but she’s still under contract so has to bide her time.
“The thing with Sam is that she’s a professional. She did think about walking off the set and never coming back but that’s not how she operates.
“Nevertheless she’s been plunged into a living hell by this. Some viewers can’t separate fact from fiction. It’s been a huge ordeal and feels never-ending. She doesn’t even want to leave the house.”
BBC bosses have now decided to bring the storyline to an end this Easter, instead of letting it drag on until Christmas. However show boss Bryan Kirkwood isn’t happy with the plan.
“The show’s in meltdown,” a source explained.
“Bryan isn’t happy at all because he’s being forced to rewrite the baby stuff. It’s absolute havoc.
“He believes he should be left alone to run the show like he was at Hollyoaks.
“He doesn’t like all the senior executives interfering. And now he now faces revolt from some senior stars, angry at Samantha’s going and that the producers ever let it come to this.”
