Jamie Foreman, who of course plays newbie EastEnder Derek Branning, has recorded a behind-the-scenes video on the set of the show, explaining what his character’s all about, and how he’s settling in to Walford life.
We have the clip for you after the jump, and in it, you’ll see Jamie explain that Derek is going to turn out to be “dangerous, destructive and sexy.”
Jamie went on to say that Derek will be, “One of those characters you love to hate”, so a bit like super-bitch Janine Malloy (Charlie Brooks) – who’s one of the best bad soapy ladies ever – then, although as she’s about to discover she’s pregnant, perhaps she’ll soften up a bit?
Nah, I don’t think so either!
But in terms of Walford male baddies, Jamie’s character has a lot to live up to if he’s to be a bad a baddie as the likes of Dirty Den (Leslie Grantham), Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) Archie Mitchell (Larry Lamb) or Nick Cotton (John Altman)…
However, getting back to what Jamie has to say of Derek, he added, “You never know what he’s going to do next!”
“I’m just waiting for little old ladies to come and beat me with their handbags” he added, which, funnily enough, was my theory as to what’s about to happen to Emmerdale villain Cain Dingle! Click here to read about that.
Jamie added, “I have been asked to appear in the show a couple of times before, and it never seemed quite the right time for me.
“But [then] this character came up – Derek Branning, the oldest Branning brother, back out of prison after all these years coming back to cause havoc in the Square.”
We’ll get to see more of Jamie as Derek in tonight’s episode, but for now, here’s the on-set video…
