EastEnders: Sharon Rickman and Phil Mitchell will get engaged! But things aren’t quite what they seem…

by Lynn Connolly

As fans of EastEnders will know, Sharon Rickman and Phil Mitchell have a lot of history, most notably that they had an affair while Sharon (Letitia Dean) was married to Phil’s brother Grant!

So since Sharon returned to Walford, we’ve been expecting that she and Phil might rekindle their former passion, and so when today the Daily Star reported that Sharon and Phil are about to get engaged, it seemed of course that they were indeed to revisit their former love.

However, there’s to be a twist apparently because although Sharon will become engaged to Phil (Steve McFadden) she’s going to continue her relationship with Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) who will be fully aware that the engagement is a sham.

The show’s bosses are staying tightlipped about the circumstances of the mystery engagement, however, an insider said, “Phil and Sharon are going to get engaged but it’s part of a bigger storyline involving the couple…

“Sharon is still seeing Jack so the fake engagement to Phil is going to cause them a number of problems.

“It also brings Phil and Sharon even closer together. And with his long-term girlfriend Shirley Carter out of the picture, who knows where it might lead?

“There’s always been something between them and there always will be. Jack is going to get paranoid about Phil and this is further fuelled by the chemistry they have.

“Jack isn’t blind but he wants to believe all Sharon is doing is helping out an old friend. Whether these two will ever be able to be just friends remains to be seen.

“They have a lot of history and ever since Sharon returned to Albert Square it’s been the question on everyone’s lips.”

However, Sharon still doesn’t know that it was Phil who set into motion the events that climaxed in the love of Sharon’s life, Dennis Rickman being murdered by Johnny Allen’s henchman, Danny Moon.

Of that, the source said, “Sharon has no idea that Phil encouraged Dennis knowing he’d go after Johnny.

“If she did it really could have quite an impact on their developing relationship.”

A fiver says that’s going to come out before long! But in the meantime, can you think of any reason why Phil and Sharon would go through with a sham engagement?

Hmmm i wonder what reason could make them need to pretend they’re engaged. Sounds silly to me but I’ll wait for it to happen before totally slating it lol
